If you are also struggling with similar imperfections, check how to take care of this particular skin type, which cosmetics to use and how to conduct an at-home treatment to support oily skin care.

How to determine oily skin?

Despite appearances, it is not as difficult! Excessive work of the sebaceous glands causes the skin to glow in the T zone (forehead, nose and beard). The skin pores are enlarged which contributes to the accumulation of dead skin, impurities and cosmetic debris. The accumulated dirt in contact with oxygen oxidizes and forms characteristic black dots. They are called blackheads and can appear on the nose, chin, forehead, cheeks, or even neckline or back. Oily skin is usually devoid of radiance and covered with discolouration – post-acne scars.

How to take care of oily skin?

When it comes to oily skin care, there are three major principles you need to remember about: cleansing, moisturising and makeup. In regard to proper cleansing, you should not use alcohol-based cosmetics. This particular ingredient causes irritations, dryness and increases sebum secretion. When talking about the contraindications, you must also remember not to use coarse exfoliators as they could only increase inflammations and spread acne all over the face and other parts of the body. What you should do is to use mild foams and mousses designed for sensitive skin care.

How to moisturise oily skin? Contrary to popular belief, skin that secrets excess amounts of sebum needs a high dose of hydration. This will help regulate the work of the sebaceous glands and prevent the T zone from shining. Thus, for moisturizing oily skin, choose creams with a light consistency, drink about 1 litre of water each day and use facial mists.

How to apply makeup to oily skin? Do not use dense, oily and full coverage foundations. This way you will only worsen the condition of your skin. You should better go for light fluids or BB creams with the content of nutrients, moisturizing substances and UV filters. You can also use mineral foundations and powders. During the day, use blotting papers that will collect excess sebum and make the skin matt again.

Oily skin – cosmetics

Always look for cosmetics that will reduce sebum secretion and pay attention to their compositions. Avoid talc, silicone content as they can clod the skin. As I have mentioned before, leave coarse-grained scrubs for those who will benefit from them. Do not worry, for your, the cosmetic producers have created enzymatic peels that can be used safely in the comfort of your own home. However, at the doctor’s office – you can use acid-based cosmetics. If you are a fan of natural cosmetics, try out a citrus tonic, fresh cucumber or a potato mask.
