Hello!

Eyes and skin around them are very sensitive so it doesn’t take much to irritate them. Surely, many of you know what I’m talking about. Just admit, how many times did a shampoo get into your eyes or you misuse a lash curler? Effect? Reddened eyeballs, watery eyes, prickling and dry eyelids, excessive lash loss. But, don’t worry any longer because there are methods to deal with such ailments. Find out how make-up for sensitive eyes look like.

Sensitive eye skin area – Profile

Both under eye skin area and eyelids are very delicate and thin – their thickness equals more or less 0,5 mm. You won’t find there any subcutaneous fat layer, and what is strictly connected with that there is no huge number of sebaceous glands. This skin area is characterized by weaker blood and lymph circulation, yet if features plenty of cells responsible for triggering allergic reactions. All of this makes the eye skin area poorly hydrated, irritation-prone and very sensitive. Due to lymphostasis, swelling and dark circles under eye tend to appear. Additionally, eye skin area wrinkles, called crow’s feet, are fast to develop due to the continuous work of orbicularis oculi muscle.

Beware the regular make-up

Unfortunately, cosmetics you use to take care and apply make-up to eyes aren’t always tested by dermatologists or ophthalmologist. Besides, some cosmetic residues might get into your eyes and cause adverse reactions. And it’s not only about chemical substances but also imprecisely powdered eyeshadows which bigger particles might damage skin or eyes mechanically. When it comes to eye safety, you must also take into consideration the expiration dates of the products you use. Mascaras and eyeliners must be replaced every three months, whereas eyeshadows can be replaced every six months. It goes without saying that application of past the expiration date cosmetics may end up with really serious complications.

Cosmetics for sensitive eyes

If your eyes and skin around them are sensitive, the best solution for you is application of mineral and hypoallergic cosmetics. Mineral products are totally safe and gentle to skin, and when they get into the eyes, they don’t cause any discomfort (basically you have to rinse the eyes with water of saline solution). The truth is, they don’t have best-before date. When stored in the right conditions (tightly closed packaging, dry and dark place), they can be used even for a year. Moreover, you can make a good use of hypoallergic cosmetics if your eye skin area is sensitive. Such products contain safe and tested ingredients, soothing substances and are recommended for contact lenses wearers. If you would like to use such cosmetics, look for the products containing: thermal water, d-panthenol and natural colourants.

Make-up for sensitive eyes VS contact lenses

You wear contact lenses and you want to do eye make-up but you’re afraid of irritations? Oh, drop it! Just introduce one tiny alteration and start applying mineral and hypoallergic cosmetics. What is this alteration about? It depends on removing contact lenses before doing eye make-up. Sadly… many women skip this step. Effect? Reddened skin, eye pain, irritations. But which cosmetics will be the best for your eyes? Choose the ones which formula is creamy or pressed, neither with glitter nor pearl mass. Moreover, glide eyeliner on the outer side of eyelids only and, when it comes to make-up removal, reach for non-oily lotions. Mind you, if you sense even the slightest discomfort, remove the contact lenses immediately and wipe off make-up.

Make-up accessories for sensitive eyes

It happens frequently that girls use applicators that go together with eye shadows they bought. Unfortunately, the products which quality is doubtful contain applicators made of synthetic materials. Rough surface of such accessories might cause irritations and lead to the eye skin area redness. Therefore, it’s important to apply make-up using brushes and sponges designed for sensitive eyes only. Obviously, such accessories must be cleaned regularly. Use of dirty brushes can encourage serious ailments of eyes and skin surrounding them.

How to remove make-up from sensitive eye skin area?

In order to remove make-up from sensitive eye skin area, use fragrance-free and oily-free products which pH is the same as tear’s. Such preparations contain thermal water of soothing and moisturising action. Delicately press a cosmetic cotton soaked with the product to your eyelids and wait a while. Repeat the procedure until the entire make-up is removed and when you notice the cotton pads being clean.

Irritations? How to cope with them?

Remove make-up using delicate lotion, refrain from rubbing your eyes with it, yet press a cotton pad to the eye skin area and lashes. Feel free to use eye drops containing eyebright. When it comes to swelling and puffiness, treat them with thermal water/green tea/chamomile dressings. Apply irritation relieving creams. However, if you still feel discomfort and the swelling and watery eyes don’t want to give up, visit a physician.
