Beware these pieces of advice! Cosmetic DIY isn’t always safe

Hello Girls,

The Internet is a vast source of information and advice, including the bad and unnecessary ones. Among them, you can find beauty hints, which don’t always turn out to be helpful. In fact, it might be quite the opposite. In the worst case scenario, they can ruin your beauty and health. Which beauty tips to avoid?

Face masks made of… glue

Indeed, you can find many DIY recipes for face masks. One of them is a combination of active charcoal and glue. I’m sure, many of you have been looking for some alternatives to these very popular black face masks which are so effective at removing blackheads and other impurities from face. However, can a glue face mask suit you right? Definitely it can’t! Why? Glue can irritate your skin, eyes and the respiratory tract severely. Moreover, just try to remind yourself what happened when you glued two fingers by accident with a fast drying-out adhesive. Besides, application of this kind of mask might trigger adverse effects. It’s highly possible that a glue will clog outlets of sebaceous glands, and the active charcoal which you’ve already mixed with the glue loses its absorptive features due to it.

Citric acid

Cosmetics with feature fruit acids usually have beneficial action on our skin. However, these is one acid that you should stay away from and I’m talking here about citric acid. Despite being know from its skin highlighting and immune system reinforcing features, citric acid can lead to severe epidermis damages. This substance can cause redness, stinging sensation or even inflammation. Moreover, you may notice blackheads whereas your sebaceous glands might start producing the excessive amounts of sebum. All things considered, citric acid shall be used in beauty parlours only, in precise concentrations.

Baking powder won’t help you become beautiful

The Internet is full of face masks recipes featuring baking powder as the main ingredient, but this is not all. This powder is also added to hair washes, compresses and dry shampoos. Is it safe to use it? Unfortunately, no. In plain words, baking powder destroys the protective layer dermis has, it can cause irritations and lead to dehydration. Moreover, baking powder disturbs natural skin pH. For that very reason, it’s wiser to leave baking powder for chores only.

Freckles tattooing

Ok, but what for? Indeed, tattoos look good but if done by a professional artist, not when they are just an answer to the newest beauty trends. As it turns out, many women tattoo their noses and cheeks to look trendy. With time they will fade away leaving blemishes on face which, to make matters even worse, impedes diagnosing skin imperfections that can appear later. Tattooed freckles don’t have any value, even the aesthetic one. When it comes to the natural freckles, they protect against UV radiation; in other words, they work like a sunscreen.
