Hello everyone!
Recently, I have been obsessed with DIY cosmetics – for three months straight, I had a mini cosmetic factory in my kitchen. My manufactory has worked effectively and the homemade lip glosses gained the biggest popularity among my friends and family. I have tried out many different methods and if you would like to open up your own ‘lab’ and produce personalized lip glosses – I am here to help.
It turns out that a homemade lip gloss can be made in a few different ways. Probably most of us would like to product to be completely natural, some might not want vaseline in their cosmetic, others might prefer a honey-based lip gloss while another group of people would prefer shea butter. Therefore, below I present several recipes and hopefully every one of you will find the right one for yourselves.
1. How to make a honey-based lip gloss?
You will need:
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil,
- 1 tablespoon of beeswax,
- 2 capsules of vitamin E,
- a bit of honey,
- a few drops of your favourite essential oil (this step is not necessary, however, it will give a nice scent).
Dissolve beeswax in a water bath, add coconut oil, honey and once all the ingredients are combined add the vitamin E. Then, pour the blend into a small container and set aside, allow it to cool down. If you want the cosmetic to tint your lips, add a bit of a natural pigment – it does not have to be red, you can try bronze or pearl pigment.
Leave it in a cool place until it is solid.
2. How to make an all-natural lip gloss?
You will need:
- one tablespoon of castor oil (or another liquid natural oil),
- a teaspoon of shea butter,
- a teaspoon of powdered beetroot.
! <3 caution: when it comes to the powdered beetroot – your cosmetic is not bound to this one pigment, if you want, you can use turmeric, cocoa or even powdered carrot.
Combine shea butter with castor oil by placing it in a water bath. Stir gently to dissolve the buttery consistency. Then, take the container out of the water bath and add the pigment. Keep stirring (gently) until the colour and the consistency are smooth. Pour the content into a small container and leave it aside to cool down.
! <3 TIP! A homemade lip gloss with beetroot can also be used as a cheek blush!
3. How to make a coconut oil-based lip gloss?
You will need:
- a teaspoon of coconut oil,
- 5-6 drops of olive oil,
- a teaspoon of dried lavender flowers or dried lemon grass.
Melt the coconut oil in a water bath, add olive oil and combine the ingredients stirring with a wooden stick. Por hot boiled water onto the lavender or other dry flowers/herbs and brew covered for about 15 minutes. Add a teaspoon of lavender infusion to the oils and mix everything thoroughly. Pour your mix into sealed containers. Put the balm in the fridge to become solid.
4. Vaseline homemade lip balm – is it worth doing?
Girls, if you are looking for a balm with vaseline, I think that it is not worth wasting time on something that costs some small money, and in fact does not really care for the lips, it only dries them up. If you want to make a natural balsam, always reach for natural oils or butter and avoid petroleum jelly. Remember that it is a derivative of crude oil, which does not have moisturizing properties, and swallowing petroleum (which is unavoidable once it’s on the lips) results in depositing it on the liver and spleen. So if you are doing something that you can control from the beginning – go for quality and safety. Besides – you probably do not want to gift anyone with a lip gloss or DIY lipstick that contains controversial ingredients? 🙂
How to make a homemade lip gloss and lip balm yourself – useful tips and tricks
Last but not least, here are a few useful tips that will help you develop your small factory 😉
In order to produce a lip gloss, you really do not need much. Combine thick butter and liquid oils, use beeswax, natural dyes, oils, flower infusions, powdered beetroots (and everything else that could give some colour – cocoa, cinnamon, turmeric…all ingredients can be combined in various ratios), dry and ground raspberries or strawberries are also a good idea. If you have a lipstick that does not work that well, you do not like its colour – it can also be used in the homemade product. Just cut off a small amount of the lip balm and add it to the warm liquid blend. Vitamins that come in the form of drops (it does not have to be vitamin E only) will also improve the conditioning properties of the product and make your cosmetic a perfect care for your lips. If you wish to brighten up the shade of your lip gloss, use a bit of corn flour. Good luck!
That is all! 🙂 Did you like any of the recipes? Do you know any other methods for homemade lip glosses? In the near future, I am going to teach you how to make a DIY soap and … perfumes! Such cosmetics look beautiful, are natural and can be a great gift for your beloved ones.
