Hey girls!
Today’s post will be about a cosmetic, without which I cannot imagine the daily care of my sensitive skin. Nothing moisturizes and soothes my dry skin better than a hydrolate.
Hydrolate is nothing but floral water. It is a byproduct that comes into being when obtaining essential oils. The formation process consists in the distillation of fresh flowers with water vapour, which makes the hydrolates full of plant substances and valuable ingredients. Depending on the plant from which the hydrolate is made, it will have different properties. We can choose it depending on the type of complexion we have. What’s more, hydrolates are very versatile.
Most popular hydrolates
- Rose hydrolate – my personal favourite one! 🙂 It is ideal for dry skin; perfectly moisturizes. It has antiseptic properties, calms irritated skin. Also, the product has anti-wrinkle properties which work by strengthening the blood vessels and lightly tensing the skin. Suitable for the care of capillary skin.
- Witch-hazel hydrolate – for oily, acne and irritated skin. It is also recommended for mature and damaged skin. It has antibacterial and soothing properties. The product regenerates irritated skin and reduces redness. Also, it strengthens blood vessels, which is why it is also great for the care of capillary skin.
- Lavender hydrolate – the most universal hydrolate. It is intended for all skin types, including sensitive and irritated ones. It has a soothing effect on inflammation. It has healing, regenerating and antioxidant properties. What’s more, the product strengthens hair and stimulates it to grow.
Application
- Hydrolates replace my toner. I rub my face with it after makeup removal.
- When I feel the need to refresh my skin, I spray my face with it (like a mist or thermal water). In the summer, I always carry it in my purse 🙂
- Sometimes, I use it together with facial oil as a moisturizer. I gently moisten my face with it and then apply the oil.
- Hydrolates will nourish the skin under the eyes. Just soak the cotton swab and apply for a few minutes to relieve puffiness around the eyes.
- It can be a component of home-made cosmetics, for instance, as a water phase of a face cream.
- It is suitable for hair in the form of a mist or a rinse. It will not only leave a beautiful, delicate fragrance, but also moisturize it and make it soft and shiny.
Do you use hydrolates? Which one works best for you? 🙂 Please, leave a comment! 🙂
