Girls,
some of you ask me about products I used on my damaged hair in the past. I’ve been through a lot with my strands and there are some items I can share. Some products really worked out well and I can recommend them with a clear conscience. Before we move on to them, let’s say a few words about….
What does damaged hair need?
When we’re sorry to spot our hair is getting worse and needs strengthening, we don’t think about what it needs. We reach out for random products labeled FOR DAMAGED HAIR. We don’t analyze the ingredient list or read user reviews. We make a mistake.
Before choosing the right product, we should learn about the needs of damaged hair. It definitely needs PROTEINS – molecules that repair damaged hair structure, strengthening from within. Hair should also be moisturized, nourished, and protected from the sun, heat and free radicals.
What to use on damaged hair?
Once we learn that proteins are essential, another question pops up. Which one to choose – a hair-repair mask, shampoo or conditioner? Each of them proves useful because they have different effects but HAIR MASK is the key one.
The greatest thing about hair masks is they work inside of hair where they’re most necessary. Their formulas are designed so that the proteins don’t sit on the surface but penetrate the hair providing in-depth repair. That’s why masks work better than conditioners and definitely much better than a shampoo whose main job is washing.
Naturally, PROTEIN-BASED HAIR MASKS are the best choice for damaged hair. They include proteins from keratin, milk, silk, soy or wheat. In comparison to masks rich in humectant or emollient substances, they have the most intensive strengthening effect. Provided that we choose the right product of course.
Which hair masks to choose for damaged hair?
Don’t buy a pig in a poke. I share my little round-up of the products that gave me the best results, and, because my hair’s extremely demanding, I make a wild guess they’ll work for you as well. Read on for the BEST HAIR-REPAIR MASKS FOR DAMAGED HAIR that are worth trying.
1 Nanoil Keratin Hair Mask (300 ml)
To me, the Nanoil mask is the best value for money as it has all that’s necessary to strengthen and revitalize the hair. It combines the performance of repairing keratin with panthenol which moisturizes and nourishes. This mask improves the hair from the first use, making it smoother, frizz-free and easy to comb. All you need to do to make it work is use it regularly, preferably after each hair wash.

2 Rene Furterer Absolue Keratine Mask (200 ml)
The intensively-repairing mask for weak, damaged hair by Rene Furterer is a very good pick too. It’s one of a few products from the Absolue Keratine line which enhances thin hair in bad condition. Regular application of Rene Furterer Absolue Keratine Mask is a good way for strengthening and beautifying the hair because it’s rich in plant-derived keratin, camellia oil and soy extracts. It’s formulated without parabens and silicones. The mask has a creamy consistency. Using it every other day for two weeks will let you see some effects. Rene Furterer Absolue Keratine Mask supports tired, heat-styled hair.
3 Davines Nounou Hair Mask (250 ml)
Some time ago I was at the hairdresser’s and the salon owner recommended Davines. I tested some products and was pleasantly surprised that she was right. I like the Davines Nounou Mask the most as it’s made for hair like mine – dry, weak, brittle. The formula contains tomato extract, jojoba oil, olive oil and vitamin E. Unlike other products in the round-up, it doesn’t contain keratin but, to my surprise, it works brilliantly on damaged hair, bringing it back to life. I just wish it had nicer packaging than the plastic container.
4 Goldwell Kerasilk Control Mask (200 ml)
If you want to greatly enhance your hair, I suggest treating it to a double dose of proteins from the Goldwell Kerasilk Control Mask – next to keratin proteins, it is rich in liquid silk. This product is effective at repairing, strengthening and protecting hair from further damage, as well as eases the styling of unruly, frizzy strands. Used after washing and left in for 5 to 10 minutes, it makes hair look way better. It is thick and cream-like which is a negative for me as I’m more into lighter products.
5 Phyto Phytokeratine Extreme Mask (200 ml)
You still don’t know which hair mask to choose for your damaged hair? I have one more suggestion and it’s called Phytokeratine Extreme by a Parisian brand, Phyto. It is based on plant-derived keratin whose repairing properties are enhanced by baobab oil and sapote butter. The mask can be used both on thin and thick hair – you just need to adjust the right amount and time you leave it in for. I liked it for a nice smoothening effect and making my hair softer and bouncy. Is it really as effective at repairing the hair, though? Maybe but I ran out of patience.
How to use hair masks?
Before you go, take a look at DIRECTIONS FOR USE I rounded up for those who’ve never dealt with a hair mask before. No matter which mask you choose, there are some fixed rules to follow.
Firstly: always use your mask on clean hair because any dirt will keep nutrients from getting inside. Secondly: squeeze out excess water before applying the mask (it doesn’t need to be dry of course). Thirdly: leave the mask in for a minimum of 15 minutes unless the manufacturer says otherwise. Fourthly: don’t apply too much product because it will weigh hair down and will be hard to wash out.
I hope my LIST OF TOP HAIR MASKS will be of any use and you’ll manage to take control of your unruly, damaged strands.
