How to Cleanse Face with Oils? Must-Know Info about OCM

Hi, girls!

Before discovering this method, I used to clean my face with an oil-infused gel and believed it to be the best way. One day I came across an article about OCM and gave it a try. This method turned out to be a real hit 🙂

What’s OCM?

OCM stands for oil cleansing method. Obviously, using oil is the most effective way of removing the oil. Washing gels are able to remove impurities, (sadly) removing the protective coat at the same time. Dehydrated skin starts producing more sebum so skin problems come along. Oils don’t disturb the natural barrier so it’s an effective and gentle method.

Which oils to use for face cleaning?

I mix two or three oils. A mixture of oils depends on the skin type but there’s one that’s included in each mix – castor oil. This oil has purifying properties and that’s why it’s the must-use ingredient. It might cause dryness so don’t use too much. If your skin feels dry and tight after cleansing, use less castor oil.

For face cleansing, exclusively natural, unrefined and vegetable oils are used. The oils must be right for your skin type and problems.

  • Dry skin: avocado oil, argan oil, rose oil, grapeseed oil, wheat oil, almond oil.
  • Normal skin: pomegranate oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil.
  • Oily skin: hazelnut oil, hop seed oil, jojoba oil, linseed oil.
  • Acne-prone skin: safflower oil, tea tree oil, tamanu oil (the two last ones must be used in small amounts).

Except for the choice of oils, the proportions matter a lot. The mixture for dry skin gets the smallest amount of castor oil (around 10%) whereas the mix for oily skin – the biggest amount (30%). Carrier oils make up the rest.

How to clean the face with oils?

Apply an oil to a slightly damp skin, massaging gently from the neck and moving up. Next, put a wet and warm towel on your face and let it dry. Rinse the towel and use it for removing the oil residue. Repeat two or three times. Finally, rinse the towel with cold water, wipe the face to close the skin pores.

OCM – effects

My skin is thoroughly purified; the pores are much less visible. The sebum secretion is reduced. Generally, my face feels soft and relieved.

I truly recommend this method 🙂 Maybe you already use it? I’m curious about your opinions 🙂
